Overview
Note: Requesting a new payment method is a feature exclusive to mtCharge+.
The Request Payment feature allows you to quickly collect new payment details directly from a customer. This is especially helpful when:
A credit card was declined during processing on an order.
A customer contacts you directly to request using a different card for their order.
How to Request a Payment Update
Navigate to the desired order and select Shipment Transaction.
Click the Request Payment Update button.
Confirm the request when prompted by MarketTime.
What the Customer Sees
Once submitted, MarketTime automatically emails the customer asking for updated payment details.
When the customer enters and submits their new payment method:
The Retailer receives an email requesting a new payment method.
They will be asked to Select or Update Payment.
The card is updated for the order.
The transaction is processed immediately upon submission.
What’s New: Enhanced Payment Update Request Flow
We’ve updated the Request Payment Update feature to make managing order payments faster, clearer, and more transparent for vendors, retailers, and sales agents alike.
Here is a breakdown of what’s improved:
Better Visibility for Vendors & Agents
Updated Card Information in the UI: When a retailer updates their payment method via the update link, the vendor/manufacturer portal instantly displays the new card details used for the transaction.
Instant Confirmation Emails ("Vendor Copy"): Vendors will now receive an immediate confirmation email as soon as a retailer successfully completes a payment update, saving a trip to check the portal manually.
Sales Agent Alerts: When a manufacturer triggers a payment update request, the assigned sales agent on the order automatically receives an email notification. This keeps reps in the loop so they can offer proactive support if the customer needs help.
Enhanced Status Tracking & Timestamps
You can now track every step of the payment update process with clear status labels and exact dates:
Request Payment Sent: Date the update link was sent to the customer.
Request Payment Successful: Date the payment was successfully completed.
Request Payment Declined: Date of the decline (if applicable).
Convenience for Retailers
Save Card for Future Use: Retailers updating their payment details can now choose to save their new card for future orders, speeding up checkout down the line.
Bug Fixes & Improvements
Accurate Transaction Dates: Resolved an issue where the system occasionally displayed the request date instead of the actual transaction date. Transaction dates across all order records now accurately reflect when the charge occurred.
