This article is focused on the setup of Commission Rates across your company.
For more information about commission splits and how they function, see THIS article.
Add Order Codes at the Company Level
If you have already been using the MarketTime web app to write orders and pay commissions, your account should already have order codes set up. If not, please add at least one new order code by following these steps: Managing Order Codes.
About Existing Order Codes
What you'll see when you look at an existing order code is a window that shows these fields:
- Start Date (New)
- End Date (New)
- House %
- Salesperson to Pay %
- Order Writer %
Add A New Order Code
To take advantage of automatic split salesperson commission, you will want to add a new order code or update an existing order code with your desired "Salesperson to Pay" and "Order Writer" rates, as well as the commission rate effective dates for example:
| With Order Writer Split | Without Order Writer Split |
|---|---|
Additionally, you can set commission rate effective dates (or not), like in these examples:
| With Date Range | Without Date Range |
|---|---|
Note: Only one record without a date range can exist for each order code. This operates as the "default commission rate" for any orders that fall outside a specific date range or if you don't want to use date ranges at all.
Review and Update Order Codes at the Salesperson Level
Once you have added order codes at the company level, or if you have added new date ranges to an order code, you should review the order code at the salesperson level, and if you need to make adjustments to the rates for specific salespeople, please follow these steps:
- Navigate to Salespeople
- Click on a Salesperson
- Click the Comm % Settings tab
- Review the tab to ensure the new order code now appears for the salesperson
- To update the commission rates, click View (the eyeball icon) for an order code
-
Update the rates as needed until each set of rates = 100%
- Click Update
Example Scenarios
Review and Update Order Codes at the Salesperson Level
Once you've added order codes at the company level, or added new date ranges to an order code, review those order codes at the salesperson level. The Comm % Settings tab now lets you update one record or many at once, so adjusting rates for specific salespeople goes much faster.
What's New
| Before | Now |
| Rates and date ranges had to be edited one record at a time | Select multiple records and update them together with Bulk Edit |
| No easy way to see which order codes shared a promo period | A new Date Range section groups order codes that share the same date range |
| Default records couldn't be edited directly | Default records can be edited or deleted individually or in bulk |
| Overlapping date ranges or rates that didn't total 100% could fail silently | Clear error messages tell you exactly what needs fixing |
| Section and column labels were unclear | The "Other" section is now "Manufacturer", and the rate columns are now Standard Commission Rate and Order-Writer Split Rate |
How to Get There
- Navigate to Sales Agency > Salespeople
- Click on a Salesperson to edit them
- Click the Comm % Settings tab
- Review the tab to make sure the new order code appears for the salesperson
Records are sorted by Manufacturer, then Order Code, then Date Range. Default records always appear at the top.
Update Rates for a Single Order Code
- Click View (the eyeball icon) for an order code
- Click the Edit (pencil) to edit existing. Update the Standard Commission Rate and Order-Writer Split Rate as needed until each set of rates equals 100%
- Click Update
Tip: If your rates don't add up to 100%, or the date range overlaps an existing record, you'll see an error message explaining what to fix before you can save.
Bulk Edit Multiple Order Codes
- Check the boxes next to the commission records you want to change. The Selected Records count and the Bulk Edit button will appear.
- Click Bulk Edit
- In the modal, enter the new Standard Commission Rate, Order-Writer Split Rate, and/or Start Date and End Date
- Make sure each set of rates equals 100%
- Apply your update
The changes will apply to every selected record at once. You can also use Delete to remove the selected records, or Reset to clear your selection.
Bulk Update Date Ranges
The Date Range section groups order codes that share the same date range, so you can shift a promo period across several order codes without touching their commission percentages. This view is sorted by Manufacturer, then Date Range, then Order Code, with Default records at the top.
- Click the Date Range section on the Comm % Settings tab
- Find the date range group you want to change, and select it on the left, and click edit
- Update the Start Date and End Date
- Save your changes by clicking Update Records
The new dates will apply to every order code in that group, and the existing rates stay the same.
The same rules apply to manufacturer specific commission rates. The splits still have to add up to 100%
If you want to pay the Order Writer a commission when the order writer is a different salesperson than the Salesperson to Pay, enter the numbers like this:
If you want the Salesperson to Pay to get the full salesperson commission %, even when another salesperson writes the order, enter the numbers like this:
How to Set the Commission Rate a Salesperson Receives for Each Manufacturer Individually
By default, new order codes are created for all manufacturers for salespeople. To set commission rates for each manufacturer individually, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Salespeople
- Click the Comm % Settings tab
- If you would like to edit an existing Order Code, select the edit (eyeball) and edit the existing commission rate and save
- If you want to add a new rate select the +New button.
- Select the Manufacturer(s) and Order Code
- Enter a Start Date and End Date (date ranges are optional)
- Enter the Standard Commission Rate and Order-Writer Split Rate, making sure each set equals 100%
- Click Add
- The order code will now be listed for the selected manufacturer(s) under the Manufacturer section of the Comm % Settings tab
Tip: If you only need to change the Default rate itself, and not split it out by manufacturer, you can now edit the Default record directly instead of deleting and recreating it.
What to Be Aware Of
- You can't edit commission rates from the Date Range section yet. Use Bulk Edit in the main table to change rates.
- You can't delete a single date range group from the Date Range section yet.
- Deleting a date range record that belongs to a parent record currently deletes the parent record too. A fix is coming soon, so double-check before deleting date range records.
- The New commission rate window still uses the older layout. It will be updated to match the new design.
FAQ
Will updating a date range in bulk change my commission percentages?
No. Bulk date range updates only change the Start Date and End Date. Your existing rates stay exactly as they were.
Why am I getting an error when I save?
Each set of rates has to total 100%, and a new date range can't overlap an existing one for the same order code. The error message will tell you which rule is blocking the save.
Can I edit or delete Default commission records now?
Yes. Default records can be edited or deleted individually, or selected with other records and changed in bulk.
What happened to the "Other" section?
It was renamed to Manufacturer so the label better describes the records listed there. Nothing about the records themselves changed.
