There are two types of tie-breakers in the assignment logic.
Selling Rep Wins
Selling Rep Wins is useful when your organization allows more than one salesperson to legitimately work the same customer or manufacturer, but you want the person who actively wrote the order to receive ownership.
It does not allow any salesperson to bypass the assignment structure.
The Order Writer must still be one of the salespeople who can legitimately receive the order. Depending on the situation, that may mean the Order Writer is:
- a Hardcoded Salesperson whose division contains the manufacturer;
- a Hardcoded Salesperson configured without a Manufacturer Division restriction; or
- a Territory Salesperson whose Territory Division contains the manufacturer.
If the Order Writer is not a valid choice under the customer's and manufacturer's setup, Selling Rep Wins does not assign the order to them.
Retailer Division
Users have always been able to assign a Division to a Retailer/Customer, but this division has never been used to drive order assignment. On some legacy Order Assignment settings, Retailer Division was able to drive the sorted order that salespeople were assigned to customers, which did have an impact on order assignment; but this was never a tie-breaker that was being truly evaluated at the time of writing an order. That has now changed.
Think of it as a tie-breaker based on how the customer is organized or serviced. For example, if two salespeople both represent the manufacturer on an order, but the customer belongs to a Retailer Division that matches only one salesperson’s division, MarketTime can use that Retailer Division to select the correct salesperson.
Retailer Division does not give a salesperson permission to sell a manufacturer they do not already represent. The salesperson must first be a valid choice for the manufacturer on the order. Retailer Division is only used after that, to help choose between multiple valid salespeople.
Use Retailer Division when your business has situations where:
- multiple salespeople can sell the same manufacturer to the same customer;
- customer ownership is separated by division, department, showroom, region, or another internal business structure; or
- you need a consistent way to resolve overlapping salesperson assignments without relying only on who happened to write the order.
