You can now add custom line items to an order right from the item search screen, before you get to Finalize Order. That means no more placeholder workaround for all-custom or mixed orders, and your one-off items stay out of the manufacturer's catalog.
What's New & Why We Made This Change
The Custom item window now has two separate options:
- Add puts the custom item on your current order only. Nothing gets saved to the manufacturer's item list.
- Save keeps the item in the manufacturer's catalog so you can use it again later. It's only available to users with the right manufacturer permissions (see below).
| Legacy Issue | How This Fixes It |
| To create an all-custom or mixed order, you had to add a placeholder item, finalize the order, delete the placeholder, then add your custom items | Click Add in the Custom window and the item goes straight to your basket |
| One-off custom items got saved to the manufacturer's catalog and cluttered the item list | Add keeps the item on this order only, so the catalog stays clean |
| Reps writing orders for self-managed manufacturers couldn't easily add custom items before finalizing | Add works for self-managed manufacturers too |
How to Get There
- Log in to MarketTime Cloud at apps.markettime.com.
- Go to Orders > New Order.
- Select your Customer, choose Line Item Order, and pick your Manufacturer.
- On the Search Items tab, click the + Custom button in the top right, next to Order Settings.
How It Works
Adding a custom item to your order
- In the Custom window, check that the right manufacturer is selected in the dropdown.
- Enter the item details: Item Number, Item Name, Description, Unit Price, Unit Qty, and UPC (optional).
- Click Add.
- The item goes into your order Basket. Repeat for any other custom items, or keep adding catalog items as usual.
Saving a custom item for future use
If you have permission to manage the manufacturer's items and want to reuse this item later, click Save instead of Add. That stores the item in the manufacturer's catalog.
Tip: Is this a one-time item? Use Add. Will you sell it again? Use Save (if you have access).
Add vs. Save at a Glance
| Add | Save | |
| Puts the item on the current order | ✅ | ✅ |
| Saves the item to the manufacturer's catalog | ❌ | ✅ |
| Available for rep-managed manufacturers | ✅ | ✅ With Read/Write Manufacturer permission |
| Available for self-managed manufacturers | ✅ | Only with a 1:1 relationship and the right permissions |
| Available with Read-Only or Disabled manufacturer permissions | ✅ | ❌ |
What to Be Aware Of
- Save is turned off for self-managed manufacturers unless your Sales Agency has an established 1:1 relationship with that manufacturer and you have the right permissions.
- Save is also turned off if your manufacturer permissions are Read-Only or Disabled. This is how permissions already worked; it isn't new.
- Add is available in all of these cases, so you can always put a custom item on your order.
FAQ
If I use Add, will the item show up in the manufacturer's catalog?
No. Add only puts the item on your current order. Use Save if you want to keep it in the catalog for later (and you have permission).
Why is the Save button grayed out for me?
You probably don't have Read/Write permissions for that manufacturer, or it's a self-managed manufacturer your Sales Agency doesn't have a 1:1 relationship with. You can still use Add to get the item on your order.
Can I mix custom items and regular catalog items on the same order?
Yes. Add custom items and catalog items in any order you like, and they'll all end up in your Basket together.
Can I still add custom items after finalizing an order?
This update lets you add them before finalizing. It doesn't change how you work with items on the Finalize Order screen.
