MarketTime allows you to separate your Manufacturers, Salespeople, or Retailers by Division for better segregation, assignment, and B2B visibility.
Territories allow you to define the geographical areas that your Salespeople represent. They assist in the auto-assignment of new customers added to your company (be it by Salespeople or via B2B registration).
Together, they allow you to control customer assignment, salesperson visibility, and brand visibility within your Agency and your B2B website. Most sales agencies transitioning from Brandwise to MarketTime utilize Division and Territory assignments.

Divisions
This feature is on the Divisions & Territories screen under Maintenance in the Navigation Menu.
Video Overview
To create a new Division, click the New Division button to begin.
Here, you will name the new Division and add any additional Description if needed. Click Save to proceed.
As you manage your Salespeople, Retailers, Manufacturers and their territories, you can assign them to the desired division, which will help in reporting, data segregation, and more.
If your company is using the Salesperson/Manufacturer Division Assignment noted below, Divisions will typically be used as "line packages", a way to group Manufacturers together that can be assigned to Salespeople to ensure proper Manufacturer Visibility depending on the Retailer they're writing orders for.
Order Assignments
By Salesperson Type
If your Order assignments are driven by salesperson type or ranking (primary, secondary, tertiary, etc.), MarketTime Staff can default the systems' behavior to follow your choice.
With this setting, if you have a customer (Customer X) with these salespeople assigned
- Sally Smith (primary rep)
- Jack Jones (secondary rep)
- Tamara Adams (tertiary rep)
For shared customers:
-
Orders Written By Non-Salespeople or Salespeople Not Assigned to the Customer: The order will be assigned to the "Primary" rep (Sally Smith)
- If an admin user writes an order for Customer X, the order will be assigned to the primary rep, Sally Smith
- If a salesperson who's not assigned to Customer X writes an order, the order will be assigned to the primary rep, Sally Smith
-
Orders Written by an Assigned Salesperson: The Order will be assigned to the logged-in salesperson
- If Jack Jones logs in and writes an order for Customer X, the order will be assigned to him (the logged-in rep wins)
By Division
If your Order assignments are driven by the Retailer, Manufacturer, or Salesperson/Manufacturer Division, MarketTime Staff can default the system's behavior to follow your choice.
Salesperson Assign By | Description |
---|---|
Manufacturer Division |
For example, for a retailer that is shared between Salespeople, the Manufacturer's division of each order (such as Toy or Gift) and the Salesperson assigned to the same division will dictate who is assigned to the order. |
Retailer Division | Similar to the above, if two Salespeople share a single area, the Retailer's division can drive the order assignment to their Salesperson according to their matching divisions. |
Salesperson/Manufacturer Division |
If two Salespeople share a single area but each has a different Division (aka "line package" to some), they will be limited in what lines they can sell to any given customer based on the Division they and their Manufacturers are assigned. This setting also supports proper Territory Exceptions (aka "hardcodes"), allowing you to specify what Division (aka "line package) a Salesperson may be allowed to represent for a specific in or out-of-territory customer. |
Territories
This is found on the Territories tab on the same screen.
Video Overview
Salespeople Territories
Salespeople Territories can be created and managed to ensure geographical areas represented by Salespeople are accounted for to assist with auto-assignment when customers are added to your company.
Adding a new Territory
To add a new Territory, click the New Territory button to begin.
In the resulting window, create your Territory, again using the drop-down to determine whether or not this is a Salesperson or Manufacturer Territory. Click Save to proceed.
Once you've saved the new Territory, you must add Zip Codes. To do this, click the Add Zip Codes button next to the Territory.
The resulting screen will allow you to search for Zip Codes (which can be searched more accurately using the drop-down menus and search field) (1), select Zip Codes (2), and add them to the Territory (3).
Zip Codes can be removed from the Territory by selecting the desired Zip Codes from the Territory Zip Codes list (1) and then clicking the Delete option (2).
Adding Zip Codes via Excel Import
In addition to manually selecting Zip Codes to assign to a Territory, you can import them via a properly formatted Excel sheet. To do so, select your territory and choose the Import button:
This feature can also be used to Update or Replace existing Zip Codes within a Territory.
This file must contain the following columns:
- ZipCode
- Country
Adding Salespeople to Territories
To assign Salespeople to a Territory, use the Assign Salespeople button next to the desired Territory:
The resulting popup allows you to choose which Salespeople to assign to the Territory (1) and the Division they are a part of (if applicable within your company) (2). When you are finished with your selection, click Assign at the bottom of the window.
Manufacturer Territories
When you have geographical restrictions on where your Manufacturers are available to order from, Manufacturer Territories can be created similarly to Salespeople Territories. Still, they will allow you to restrict visibly for Manufacturers on your B2B Website.
Use the Manufacturer toggle to switch to your Manufacturer Territories:
Here, you can click New Territory to create a new Manufacturer Territory.
Add Zip Codes in the same methods available to Salespeople Territories:
And assign the relevant Manufacturers relevant to that territory:
When assigning Manufacturers to their territories, you can specify which ones will be associated with that territory as well as the Division they belong to:
NOTE: If you have a state with a zip code that falls into two different Manufacturer Territories, you may need to take a few additional steps to restrict certain Manufacturers from accidentally being shopped by an out-of-state Retailer.
EX: zip code 12345 is a part of Manufacturer Territory A and Manufacturer Territory B. If your Retailer Heidi's Hat House has a ship-to zip code of 12345, the system would allow purchases in Manufacturer Territory A and Territory B. Since the Manufacturer Bob's Bonnets cannot be sold in Manufacturer Territory B, you will need to create three different Manufacturer Territory scenarios:
- Territory A: include all applicable zip codes and all applicable Manufacturers
- Territory B: include all applicable zip codes except 12345 and all applicable Manufacturers except Bob's Bonnets
- Territory B 12345: include only zip code 12345 and all applicable Manufacturers including Bob's Bonnets
Working in conjunction with Salespeople Territories and Divisions, Manufacturer Territories can ensure that those who browse and shop your B2B Website only see Manufacturers relevant to their geographical area (based on their Ship To Zip Code) and assign to the proper Salesperson according to your business rules.
