Label Options & Recommendations
MarketTime's current list of support label sizes can be found below:
- Avery 5167
- Avery 5195
- Avery 5160
- Uline S-16989
- Uline S-20133
MarketTime recommends printing barcodes on Avery Labels. While printing barcodes with all Label Types from MarketTime is as simple as pressing the print button, our Support team has seen more issues with the U-Line Labels after the print job is complete (e.g., barcodes not fully fitting in the label area). These issues can be caused by a variety of factors outside of MarketTime's control -- such as an outdated printer driver, non-standard print trays, or a physical issue such as loading the paper improperly/inconsistently. If you are experiencing an issue with barcodes properly printing within the label area, printing fewer barcodes per sheet (i.e., printing 50 per sheet instead of 100) may lead to better outcomes.
Creating Barcodes/Barcode Labels Overview
You can create product barcodes from a PO number, or manually. The Barcode Labels section is found in the left-hand navigation under Maintenance.
From here, you can select the items for which you need barcodes. The video below reviews how to select products manually or via purchase order.
Video Overview
Creating Barcodes from a Purchase Order
Start, by entering at least the first two characters of a PO number in the Select PO# field. Find the appropriate PO in the dropdown and click on it. Once selected, the items from that order will appear.
Once the items appear, fill in the appropriate information in the boxes you see below:
- Your desired label size (1)
- What text should appear on each label (2)
- Which UPC to use (UPC1 is what's imported with your manufacturer/vendor's data, and is often a true UPC or EAN number, UPC2 is an alternative value field that you can import for barcode printing and scanning, while UPC3 (or the MarketTime Barcode) is a uniquely-generated number that allows you to produce barcodes for items that weren't supplied with true UPC numbers) (3)
- And finally, choose the items you'd like to print barcodes for (4)
Once you've made your choices, click the Print button to view the results and save/print as desired.
Creating Barcodes by Manually Selecting Items
Whereas the PO number option was automatically tied to a manufacturer, if you ever need to manually select items for barcoding, you'll first need to find the appropriate Manufacturer.
Note: You may print ALL items from a Manufacturer by simply selecting the Manufacturer and clicking Print, or you can choose specific items at the bottom of the page, by clicking in the box to the left of the Item #.
Choosing Which UPC Code to Use on Your Barcodes
There are three options for UPCs that you can print on your barcode labels.
- UPC1 is the default and what is imported with your manufacturer/vendor's data. This is most often a true UPC or EAN number.
- UPC2 is an alternative value field that you can import for barcode printing and scanning
- UPC3 (MarketTime Barcode) is a uniquely generated number that allows you to produce barcodes for items that weren't supplied with true UPC numbers
The values for UPC1 and UPC2 come from the manufacturer/vendor's data file imported into the MarketTime system. Each value in the UPC1 or UPC2 column corresponds with a specific product name/number.
The auto-generated UPC3 value comes from MarketTime after a data file has been uploaded creating a unique value comprised of a Manufacturer name abbreviation and individual product number. This is also known as the MarketTime Barcode.
Can I Use the ssiBarcodes We Had in Brandwise?
*For Agencies transitioning from Brandwise to MarketTime: If you are using agency-managed vendor accounts, you may have received ssiBarcodes as part of the initial (one-time) data transfer. These codes will be visible in the UPC2 field. While these codes may work for your immediate needs, you should consider moving to UPC1 or 3 as soon as possible.
- Any new products for that vendor will need UPC1 or UPC3 codes created.
- If you upload a replacement data file for the vendor, you will overwrite the original ssiBarcodes.
- If your vendor manages their own data (vendor-managed account), ssiBarcodes will not work. All vendor-managed accounts will use UPC1 or UPC3 (MarketTime Barcodes) and require you to update accordingly for scanning - this includes relabeling showroom products.
